The MRH90 Helicopter was procured by the ADF in 2005 as part of an AU$2+billion project. One aircraft that the MRH90 was to replace was the Black Hawk helicopter in the battlefield troop lift role. Preliminary results from other MRH90 users indicated issues with this aircraft operating in sand, dirt, grass or gravel environments; and further testing was required to determine the extent of these issues.
Nova Systems flight test specialists lead the planning, conduct and reporting of this trial in order to meet the quick turnaround required. Nova Systems planned the test program in close collaboration with Army test pilots and developed a detailed Test Plan; which was signed off by senior Army Aviation representatives within two weeks. The flight test program was conducted over 10 days and comprehensive pre and post flight maintenance inspections were coordinated by Nova Systems.
Nova Systems delivered a comprehensive Test Report, which detailed the airworthiness and maintenance impacts of operating a MRH90 in battlefield-like environments; less than two months after being requested to conduct the task. This MRH90 flight test program success proved the ability of using Nova Systems to rapidly plan, conduct and report on a complex flight test event.
The combined Defence and Industry team identified all resources required (including photographic experts) and the dedicated personnel in location for resource coordination proved to be invaluable in the initial conduct phase.
