Nova Systems led and delivered an assessment of safety, technical, training, legislative and certification challenges and opportunities across all classes of Unmanned Air Systems (UAS). The work was required to inform Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Ministry for Transport requirements and policy making on the exploitation of UAS in both the military and civil markets.
The study required complex project management of a diverse MOD stakeholder group as well as a management of a wide range of UK industrial expertise. A number of data gathering and analysis methods were use including workshops, questionnaires, literature review and interviews.
The work generated a clear picture of the UK UAS enterprise and helped shape Her Majesty’s Government and MOD UAS policy development by clarifying a range of key safety, technical, legal, certification, training and other issues. It directly informed MOD policy in the UAS field and clarified safety and legal aspects of UAS acquisition and operation. The output of the work was briefed to a senior stakeholder group in MOD and was also briefed to the Department for Transport chaired UAS Cross Government Working Group.
