The ACP also sought to procure the necessary in-service support for these systems.
Nova Systems was initially engaged by the VICPOL ACP to provide expert aviation advice to the program from its early stages through to tender award. As a result of the value generated, Nova’s involvement was extended to partnering VICPOL through to the successful introduction into service of the capability.
Solution
To meet VICPOL’s needs, the solutions needed to integrate complex mission systems onto the selected Leonardo AW139 and Beechcraft B300 aircraft, including EO/IR sensor, mapping, communications and other tactical systems. Nova proposed a tailored systems engineering process incorporating a series of design reviews and test activities, to ensure evolution of the design to meet user needs.
Nova Systems partnered with VICPOL and collaborated with the prime contractor teams; allowing them freedom to apply their own design process, know-how and innovation, while maintaining focus on VICPOL’s needs.
Outcome
The VICPOL ACP achieved delivery of three AW139 helicopters and one B300 fixed wing aircraft with fully integrated and certified mission systems on time, on budget, and able to deliver the fully intended capability. This was achieved in approximately three years, despite the obstacles posed by COVID-19. Nova Systems tailored systems engineering approach applied in a collaborative way with VICPOL’s prime contractors was fundamental to this success.
