ASCE is ‘tried and tested’ in safety critical industries, and respected by regulators internationally. Nova Systems Supports the Inaugural 2017 Defence Industry Cyber Security Challenge

Aug 30, 2017

Nova Systems is proud to be a Gold Sponsor of the inaugural 2017 Defence Industry Cyber Security Challenge, hosted by the Australian Cyber Security Growth Network (ACSGN).  Launched in South Australia – home of Nova Systems ANZ headquarters – the Cyber Security Challenge is being held to help spark interest in all things cyber security.

The growing global demand for cyber security products and services provides a significant economic opportunity for Australia. Australia’s growth prospects are sizeable if it succeeds in focusing on the unique strengths and advantages it possesses in cyber security. This is true even though the domestic cyber security sector is still in its infancy and the Australian market has so far been dominated by foreign players.

  • Over the next decade, the Australian cyber security sector has the potential to almost triple in size, with revenues soaring to A$6 billion by 2026, from just over A$2 billion today
  • Australia’s cyber security sector will become larger, more diverse and more sophisticated in servicing the security needs of organisations concerned with managing their cyber risks

Critical to achieving the benefits of this strategically significant opportunity is ensuring Australia’s well-recognised cyber security skills shortage is addressed and our world leading talent identified, nurtured and rewarded.

The Defence Industry Cyber Security Challenge is the first challenge under a comprehensive national program of cyber security challenges being delivered by ACSGN. This program is focused on skills development and talent identification, designed to complement cyber security skills and curricula enhancement being undertaken across Australia’s primary, secondary and tertiary education systems.

The Challenge involves two distinct scenarios – a capture the flag technical stream and an insider threat analysis and detection stream – held in fictitious defence industry organisations. The Challenge seeks to identify and encourage talented individuals currently studying or interested in cyber security careers.

The Challenge will run over 5 days from 9 to 13 September and is open to individuals aged 18 and over who aren’t currently employed in cyber security professions.

Registration is via the ACSGN website:

Nova Systems is committed to supporting the development and assurance of Australian security and sovereign capability.
