Nova Systems was engaged to demonstrate the advantages and uses of Augmented Reality technology to the electricity distribution industry, particularly relating to remote worker safety and efficiencies in remote site operations. Distribution networks extend into rural and remote areas of Australia and travel costs to these areas can be a significant cost to distribution companies.
Nova Systems worked closely with distribution company stakeholders to identify potential scenarios where the Augmented Reality technology could provide real benefit and cost savings and generated a set of use cases and requirements against which to evaluate the technology. This included applications in remote and confined spaces worker safety, remote worker assistance from Subject Matter Experts, worker training and electrical switching operations.
Nova Systems worked closely with a leading Australian university with a global reputation in Augmented Reality to modify the University’s existing technology with additional features that are necessary to deploy an Augmented Reality capability into a real industrial and safety critical environment.
Through working with both the end user and technologists, Nova Systems was able to provide independent and credible advice on the current state of the technology, the features required before a credible capability could be deployed and a Digital Transformation roadmap showing how to transition from the current technology to a deployable system in a safety critical environment.
