At the start of 2016, Nova Systems was engaged by Downer Utilities to support their Systems and Safety Assurance deliverables for the Power Supply Upgrade (PSU) project of three train station in the Sydney Region; Minto, Guildford and Ingleburn. Nova Systems’ scope of work was to support the successful delivery of the Requirements Analysis, Allocation and Traceability Matrix (RAATM), Project Specific Safety Risk Register (PSSRR) and Safety Risk Summary Reports (SRSR).
Nova Systems was then engaged to assist with the type approval process of new electrical equipment which needed to be safely integrated into the existing system. This required Nova Systems’ expertise in supporting a safety case to be presented to Transport for New South Wales’ (TfNSW’s) Asset Standards Authority (ASA). A key challenge of this project is the three different locations of each substation, providing unique requirements for each design.
The designer for the PSU project was AECOM which lead to further project management complexity and therefore required transparent communication between all project staff involved. During the design phase, Nova Systems’ consultants were embedded within the AECOM office in Sydney, allowing collaborative teamwork that cannot be matched in an online environment.
