Challenge
The RAF are looking to integrate a Lightning mission training capability into their Distributed Team and Collective Synthetic Training Capability, Gladiator. The Lightning Full Mission Simulator cannot be integrated in the short term, so an appropriately targeted fidelity solution is required. As an independent source of modelling and simulation expertise with a deep understanding of Gladiator, Nova Systems were a natural choice to assemble, lead and manage the team to deliver the CCD.
Solution
Using an experienced team of consultants and an agile approach to procurement and development, Nova Systems are leading a strong collaboration of technical experts and equipment suppliers to deliver the project. The task is to build a 4-ship prototype F-35 mission training capability based on the US DOD EBS software and assess the utility of the prototypes for Lightning distributed team and collective training. Two of the cockpits are fixed base and two are deployable.
Outcome
The CCD aims to deliver the RAF a costed route to swift delivery of additional synthetic mission training capability for the Lightning Force and to enable Lightning Force personnel to participate in Gladiator Collective training.
The CCD will provide the RAF with a firm understanding of the time, cost and effort involved in the delivery of targeted fidelity synthetic mission training capability and explores the use of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and Military-Off-The-Shelf (MOTS) solutions to reduce the reliance on proprietary components and software.
